Shirley Crowell, 90 of Waxahachie, Texas passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 following a long struggle with dementia. She was born December 25, 1929 in Fort Worth, Texas to Victor and Dorothy Cox. The family soon moved to Oak Cliff where she graduated from WH Adamson High School in 1947. Shirley went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1948 and retired in 1986 after 38 years as a manager in the white pages directory department. Shirley married Norman Lee (NL) Crowell on May 03, 1952 in Durant, Oklahoma. NL was born on October 28, 1929 and graduated from Crozier Tech in Oak Cliff in 1947. NL joined the Marines in 1949 and after he married Shirley, he operated a catering truck business. NL passed away December 29, 1986 at age 57. They lived in Oak Cliff through the late 70’s and in the Red Oak area in the 80’s. Following NL’s passing in 1986 Shirley moved to Waxahachie. Shirley was preceded in death by NL, her parents Victor and Dorothy Cox, her twin sisters Jeanne Fisk and Joanne Kamradt, and NL and Shirley’s lifelong friend Bill Crotts. NL was preceded in death by parents Clay and Drucilla Crowell of Oak Cliff. Shirley and NL are both survived by their son Mike Crowell and his wife Jennifer of Midlothian, grandson Vic Crowell, granddaughter Brianna Chelette, 3 great grandson’s Cooper Crowell, Boston Chelette and Kylan Chelette, her niece Denise Beadel who was very close to her and her husband Gary, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation was held for Shirley at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie on November 22, 2020.

NL’s cremated remains were moved from Laurel Land Cemetery in Oak Cliff to join Shirley’s, at the DFW National Cemetery on December 18, 2020. Full military honors hosted by the United States Marine Corps were held in their honor. Services arranged exclusively by Wayne Boze Funeral Home and The United States Marine Corps.
