Roy B. Childs Jr. of Palmer, TX. passed away peacefully on July 24, 2020 at the age of 78, at Ennis Care in Ennis, TX.

Roy was born on October 25, 1941 in Teague, TX. to his parents Roy B. Childs Sr. and Kathryn Clarke Childs, from Fairfield, TX.  and was, one of 4 children. He completed his high school education while serving in the military.

Roy spent his entire life dedicated to protecting and serving his country and fellow American’s. He enlisted in the Navy at the young age of 16 spent a couple of years there. He then went on to serve in the United States Army from 1959 to 1968, where he served as Staff Sergeant, Infantry and Special Forces NCO, Served as a Squad Leader, Assistant Platoon Sergeant, Training NCO, Career Counselor and Motor NCO. Roy was an Army Ranger, and Green Beret. He was a Hella Shriner. He went to work for LTV in 1968 as an Induction welder where he welded gold alloy bulkheads to tubes for aircraft being constructed. Shortly after that he spent a few years self employed as a home improvement contractor. In 1970 to 1975 he worked as a reserve Police officer for the Irving Police Department. He then moved on to the United States Postal Service from 1972 to 1994 where he served as postal police corporal. Then in 1994 he joined the United States Airforce and Texas National Guard, where he was responsible for the full-time security of the USAF resources. In 1995 he went to work for the Department of Public Safety in Dallas, TX where he worked for Parkland Hospital until he retired.

His children remember him as a loving, dedicated, and driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.

He was a member of the Sardis Methodist Church, in Sardis, TX.

Roy B. Childs Jr. is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Childs; his sister, Maria Christine Whitefield of Denver, Colorado,  his 4 children son Roy Childs III, and wife Melany of Palmer, TX, son Ric Childs and wife Shaylin of Palmer, TX., daughter Patricia Ann Childs, of Cedar Creek, TX,  Step son Michael Shane Bryant of Hubbard, TX, 11 Grand Children and 6 Great Grand Children and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy B. Childs Sr. and Kathryn Clarke Childs, of Fairfield, TX, his brother Anthony Childs, and sister Charlene Johnson.

Visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 at God’s House at 150 Lone Elm Rd in Waxahachie, TX. from 6 pm – 8 pm.  The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday July 29 at 11 am at God’s House at 150 Lone Elm Rd in Waxahachie, TX. with a reception to follow at Sardis Methodist Church located at 645 Sardis St. Midlothian, TX. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Roy B. Childs Jr's life.
