Richard Raymond Moir

August 21, 1944 ~ September 19, 2021 (age 77)

Tribute

Richard Raymond Moir was born to Raymond Brebner Moir and Wilda Carolyn Brickell Moir on August 21, 1944, at the Waxahachie Sanitorium, Waxahachie, Texas.  He passed on September 19, 2021, at the Vitas Healthcare Inpatient Unit in Methodist Medical Center, Dallas, Texas.

Left to cherish his memories are, his wife of 51 years, Elva Ann Brock Moir; their daughter Brandy Renee Moir, Billy Dale Garrett (Spouse); grandchildren, Simon Wayne O’Rear, Bethany Brooklyn Garrett, Darian Lee Messer (Partner), Jaylon Ray Garrett, and Karlie Rae Garrett. His sister, Lynda Lu Moir Graves, sister-in-law, Johnetta Brock Batson, Jeffrey Batson (Spouse). Last but not least, his faithful Fur Baby, KayceeJo.

Richard graduated Waxahachie High School in 1963. After working for Sears (downtown Dallas), LTV (Garland) Gay Products (Waxahachie) and Tyler Refrigeration (Waxahachie), he went to work at Armstrong Cork when it opened its Waxahachie plant in 1966, he retired 38 years later due to poor health.  During his employment he served on numerous Committees, was a member of the GBBA (Glass Bottle Blowers of America) acting as the Secretary/Treasurer. Richard was very active in the Union during the time of his employment.

After retirement Richard was active in community activities and served as a Board member for both the Chautauqua Preservation Society and Historical Waxahachie, Inc., where he conducted many tours (both for community events and private tours).  His failing health began to limit his activities in community service, Ann retired, and they began to travel to various places on their Bucket List.

Richard has been a member of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church since 1956, he has served on several committees as well as being a Trustee. He is also a member of the Searchers Sunday School Class.

Richard was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma in 2015 and he started on the fight of his life! He had numerous surgeries, radiation treatment, Keytruda infusions, and was just going into a trial for a medication to be used in conjunction with Keytruda infusions when another serious health crisis arose. He wasn’t able to continue with the trial at that point and he had exhausted all options for Merkel Cell.  He wasn’t ready to give in or give up, so he dug his heels in and went to war with a body that was already exhausted.  In all this time he never once complained, lamented “why me”, or even began to lose his faith in God. He was Ann’s “HERO”, Brandy’s “SUPERMAN”, and “DABBA” to his wonderful Grandchildren. There will never be another like him!

The family would like to thank Drs: Charles Cowey, Christine Landry, Nathan Ludwig, and Jepson Maliyil, their staffs, the Baylor Health System both Dallas and Waxahachie, Vitas Healthcare, our Ferris Heights Family, both our Families as well as all our friends and aquaintes for all their prayers, continuous hard work, their support and direction in helping Richard on the most difficult journey of his life.  May the Lord Bless and Keep You All!

In lieu of flowers the family asks you make donations to Ferris Heights United Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
