Philip Reeves

May 30, 1953 — March 14, 2019

Philip Wayne Reeves, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend was called home by His Heavenly Father on March 14, 2019.  He was 65 years young.

Philip was born on May 30, 1953 in Dallas, TX to Billy Wayne Reeves and Gloria Sharp Reeves.  Philip graduated from DeSoto High School and attended Mountain View Community College.  He later graduated from Paramedic/Firefighter School in Duncanville and served on the Duncanville Fire Department for several years.  Philip, a Master Electrician, owned Reeves Electrical Contracting Company based in De Soto and Waxahachie, TX.

Philip married his high school sweetheart, Carla Gaye Wright, on June 2, 1973 in DeSoto, TX.  They later moved to Red Oak, TX to raise their three children, later moving to Waxahachie, TX.

In high school Phil enjoyed playing football, baseball and running track.  As a young adult, Phil also enjoyed boxing and coaching in the Golden Gloves.  Phil loved coaching his children in baseball and basketball and enjoyed playing and coaching church softball teams well into his 40’s.  Philip served as president of the Pee Wee Basketball Association in Red Oak, TX for eight years.  Phil loved to follow high school football and University of Texas football.

Phil’s passion was running his successful business, Reeves Electrical Contracting.  He loved to go out and meet builders, swapping constructions stories and being a part of building new homes.  He had a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children and many employees for 30 plus years. Reeves Electric, which has been in business for 66 years, was started by his father, Billy Wayne Reeves, and will continue under his son, Wesley Reeves, keeping his legacy alive for years to come.

Philip became a Christian and was baptized at the age of 16.  He and Carla attended Trinity Oaks Baptist Church in Red Oak where they made many lifelong friends.  Philip was later a member of Hampton Road Baptist Church DeSoto, serving as Chairman of Deacons and on several committees.  He and Carla headed up the “Upward Basketball” program there for several years.  After moving from Red Oak to Waxahachie, Philip and Carla became members of Farley St. Baptist Church in Waxahachie, TX where they enjoyedsenior activities and Sunday School.

Phil’s happy place in life was the family lake house at Cedar Creek Lake.  He loved fishing off the dock with his family and grandchildren and working around the lake house. His favorite time to be at the Lake was 4th of July week.  Phil considered the lake house his home away from home.  He also loved playing golf with special friends and family members.

Phil’s final words included that he could feel the presence of God and he knew that God was with him.  Philip Reeves was a hero to everyone in his life.  He was a loving, generous man who gave more than he received.  He was strong and fought a hard battle with cancer.  He is now serving as our heavenly hero.
