Michael Robert Cass passed away peacefully on July 23, 2020 at the age of 75 in Waco, Texas. Michael Robert Cass was born on August 6, 1944 in Waco to Robert Earle Cass and Nell Marie Wiley. He also had a sister named Pat. 

Michael spent the early part of his life dedicated to protecting and serving his country and fellow Americans. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of nineteen, where he worked as a Maintenance Chief and a Squadron Inspector. He went on an eight-month deployment on the USS Coral SEA while in the Navy. After he worked his way through the ranks, and completed twenty- two years of service, he retired as a Senior Chief of the Navy. He decided to continue pursuing his education and attended UTA in Arlington, Texas. After receiving his degree in history, he decided to become a teacher in Lampass ISD teaching high school. He loved teaching and helping kids as much as he could.

His military decorations include the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Fifth Good Conduct Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Some of his accomplishments include being a member of the American Legion for nine years and becoming a Mason. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a Mason last year. He was a Master Mason at the Crawford Masonic Lodge 585. This was an accomplishment that he was very proud of.

Mike was a guy who loved to tell his stories over and over again. He would entertain you for hours upon hours. He was always cracking jokes and trying to make you smile. He had the most infectious smile that made you smile.He also loved to play his guitar and sing. His favorite thing to do was to spend time with his wife Barb. You could always find them together either at church or watching TV together.

He was a very Christian man who believed in his faith to help him lead a very honorable life. He was a member of Speegleville Baptist Church for eleven years. He also held the title of being a deacon at the church and a music sound tech. He loved to help others. You could find him at the food pantry, helping seniors, and finding any way to serve others.

His children remember him as a loving and dedicated father who encouraged them to do their best and wanted them to pursue their dreams.

Michael is survived by his loving wife Barbara of thirty-two years, brother in law James Campbell Jr, children Robert and wife Jessica, Gayle and wife Brandy, and Daron and wife Wesley as well as grandchildren Savannah, Ella Grace, Gracyn, and Lincoln, niece Robin and nephew Eric and cousins Tommy and Tammy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Pat.

A small, private graveside funeral will take place on Thursday, July 29th at 1 p.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Cass, Gayle Underwood, Kurtis Alexander, Eric Dunnam, Chuck Mottet, and David Denning.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Speegleville Baptist Church in honor of Mike or gift cards to the family.
