Maxine Prather

August 14, 1933 — August 7, 2021

Waxahachie

On August 7, 2021 the gates of Heaven opened to let Maxine come home.  Maxine fought the good fight and kept her faith.  She lost her health to Dementia and its complications. Maxine was of the Methodist faith.

Maxine was born in Waxahachie to Acie Nolan and Johnnie Fay Hicks Bearden in 1933. Maxine’s mother died when she was 3 years old.  She grew up and was education in Waxahachie, graduating from Waxahachie High School in 1952.

Maxine started her working career at S H Kress Dime Store, located on the square in Waxahachie at age 16 while she was still in high school.   After graduating she moved to Dallas and started working first a Southwestern Bell Phone Company and then at the following businesses which were Page Boy Maturity Fashions, Blue Cross Insurance Company, and Apple Staffing Employment Service.  Her husband, Clarence Prather, was in the automobile business and she helped him in the office, as well as helping her son, Larry Prather, with his auto business.

Maxine was proceeded in death by her parents, Acie and Johnny Faye Bearden, her husband, Clarence Prather, her only son, Larry Nolan Bearden, one sister, Barbara Bearden Fleeman, one niece, Charlotte Sue Mellas, one nephew, Raymond Fleeman, Jr., one half- brother, Austen Ruben Thrash,  her grandparents, John and Fannie Bearden, James Ranton, cousin,  and Glenda Robertson, niece and caregiver of Alabama.

She leaves behind two beautiful grandchildren, Courtney Prather of Arizona, and Trey Prather and wife Natalie of Anna, Texas.  She is also survived by one niece, Kay Fleeman, of Waxahachie, and one cousin, JoAnn Ranton, of Waxahachie.  She is also survived by Nancy Prather and Gyda Sims, nieces and caregivers of Alabama.

A celebration of her life will be celebrated on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:30 AM at Oak Branch Cemetery.   Maxine had many friends and will be miss by all.  She is now happy in Heaven with loved ones and no longer sick.  We love her and will meet her again one day.
