Mariyln (Still) Locke

April 22, 1935 ~ January 6, 2022 (age 86)

Tribute

Born April 22, 1935 in Corsicana, Texas to Cammie McCoy Still and Martin Luther Still.

Died January 6, 2022 in Waxahachie, Texas.

Mariyln grew up in Beaumont, Texas, graduating from Beaumont High School.  She obtained her Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Houston.  She met Donald Edwin Locke while both worked at Methodist Hospital in Houston.  Their first date was to a church service.  They married on November 29, 1956, celebrating 65 years of marriage recently.

Don and Mariyln moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Don served in the Air Force as a dentist.  After completing his Air Force service, they moved to Waxahachie in 1959.

Don and Mariyln had three children: Sue Locke Hunt, Kevin Brian Locke (wife – Debbie Sanders), and Steven Roy Locke (wife – Darlene Locke).   Mariyln enjoyed four grandchildren: Alyssa Janel Hunt Wells (husband - Evan Wells), Amanda Nicole Hunt, Kyle Henry Locke (wife - Nickayla Floyd Locke), and Cheyenne Lynn Locke.  Mariyln also celebrated a great grandchild Austin Henry Wells.

Mariyln was a longtime member of First Christian Church, participated in Junior Service League, and loved her sewing group known as “Loose Women”.  She enjoyed cooking and gardening.  Mariyln was also an avid quilter who passed on this passion to her daughter, daughter-in-law, and most importantly, her husband.  She taught many quilting classes.  In their later years, Don and Mariyln traveled extensively with Don’s “Supper Quilt” (35 states and 5 foreign countries).

Mariyln took care of many people in many ways, always friendly to everyone she met.  She was the neighborhood welcome wagon bringing baked goods to new neighbors.  She was diligent in providing casseroles and other food items to grieving families from the church.  Mariyln reflected Christ’s love for others in everything she did.  We will greatly miss our wife/mother/grandmother/great-grandmother/friend.

The family appreciates the outpouring of love and support by Mariyln’s friends.  We also want to thank Maryiln’s many doctors and nurses who cared for Mariyln in the past six and a half years.  Memorial donations can be made to your favorite cancer research or pulmonary fibrosis research organizations.
