Margaret Pitts

PITTS, Margaret Clovis Calhoun Brown passed away January 25, 2020 in Waxahachie, Texas at the age of 95.  She was born April 23, 1924 in Hope, Arkansas, a daughter of the late George Wiley and Honor Gertrude Martindale Calhoun.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Loran Zackery Brown; second husband of 6 years Jim Pitts; daughter Barbara Jean Brown Sullivan Christopher; son Michael Loran Brown; sister Dolores Almand; brothers, G.W. Calhoun and C.T. Calhoun; and adopted brother Danny Martindale.

A deeply spiritual person, she loved to read the Bible and was a member of Farley Street Baptist Church.  She was a mother and homemaker who later worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse then worked in the restaurant business with her husband Loran Brown. She loved to cook and often developed delicious recipes for the restaurant.  An avid knitter, she made her own patterns and generously shared her knitted treasures with others.  She played guitar; and along with her sister, Dolores, sang on the radio as young women.

She will be greatly missed for her good-natured sense of humor, positive attitude, and care for others.  Though bed-ridden for the last couple of years, she always had an amazing outlook.  When asked about the secret to her positive outlook, she replied, “memories.”  She lived on memories that she had accumulated in her 95 years.  And she offered this advice, “go out and build, then store up as many happy memories as you can so that you will have them should you need them one day when that’s all you have left.”

She is survived by many family members including Grandchildren Kimberly Sullivan Craig, Leighton Sullivan, Joshua Michael Brown, Seth Michael Brown, and Loran Nicholas Brown; great grandchildren Chase Gallops and his daughter Lyric, Sharayah Burnett and husband Jonathan and their children Luke Gideon and Mattie, Karilyn Furr and son Logan, Kaci Gallops, Scarlett Craig, Jeffrey Smith and wife Breanna Smith and children Eleanor and Emarie, Hannah Sullivan and fiance Matthew Wedgeworth and their children Christopher Anderson and Reygan Wedgeworth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
