Kathryn Clopton

Kathryn Graves Clopton was born in Palmer, Texas on June 23, 1918 and passed on June 12, 2022 just short of her 104th birthday. Kathryn was proceeded in death by her husband of 65 years, Pete Clopton. She was a longtime resident of Rockett, Texas and was a member of the Rockett Christian Church.

Kathryn was the third of five children born to Robert and Gertrude Graves. Her siblings included: Robert (Bob) Graves, Dixie Graves Cave, Jess E. Graves and Nell Graves Sawyer all of whom proceeded her in death.

Kathryn graduated from Ferris High School in 1936. In October of 1940 she married Pete Clopton. They made their living farming the family land for over 20 years until converting the property to a resort in the 1960’s. The six-hundred-acre Lake Clopton Hunting and Fishing Resort consisted of two lakes, seven hunting areas, numerous bird pens where they raised quail and pheasant, and two large kennels where they could board up to 60 hunting dogs.

In 1973 they sold the resort save 19 acres where they built a new home, greenhouse and barn. Kathryn and Pete enjoyed and active retirement and spent several months a year in their vacation home in Aransas Pass where they enjoyed fishing the bays and intercoastal canal in their boat.  When not fishing, Kathryn and Pete were busy working, preparing for, and tending to their garden and fruit trees.

Following Pete’s passing in 2005, Kathryn stayed busy with church activities and spending time with Jana, David, and Wade Franklin who had built a home next to theirs. Kathryn attributed her longevity to always staying busy and not just sitting around.

Kathryn and Pete had no children of their own by were active in raising three generations of Clopton and Graves nieces and nephews. She is survived by: Jana, Wade and Wynell Payne, Wade Franklin Beeson and David Beeson along with numerous other nieces and nephews and her longtime care giver Melissa Torres.
