Jonathan Wilson

May 10, 1968 — August 9, 2020

Waxahachie

Jonathan Quinn Wilson, 52, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday night at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born May 10, 1968 in Waxahachie to Clarence Melvin and Lila Giles Wilson. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior when he was 7 years old.  He was a graduate of Waxahachie High School, Class of 1986. He attended Texas A&M Fire Academy and Kilgore College. Jon volunteered at the Waxahachie Rural Fire Department. He graduated from DeSoto Fire School and soon began his Firefighter career at the Ennis Fire Department, where he served for three years. He always wanted to return to serve in his hometown community and got this opportunity in October, 1999 when he joined the Waxahachie Fire Department. All of the men that he worked with through the years have become his brothers and family. He loved working with them and being able to serve in the town he loves so much. He retired as a Captain this past April. Jon took great pride in owning his own business, Firehouse Barber Shop.

He married his high school sweetheart, Darla Pope, on August 17, 1991. They were married for almost 29 years. They were blessed with two sons, Jonathan Luke and Kaleb Mills. These two truly were his pride and joy!

He was preceded in death by his dad, Clarence Melvin Wilson; his father-in-law, Danny Wayne Pope and his grandparents.

He was a devoted husband to his wife, Darla, and an amazing dad to his children Luke and Kaleb. He is survived by his mother, Lila Giles Wilson. He is also survived by his sister, Emily, and husband, Bobby Oliver; his brother Kerry, and wife, Kathy; his sister, Angy, and husband Rick Bruce. He thought of the Pope family as his own...mother-in-law, Dian Cassity Pope; sister-in-law, Donna, and husband Alan Greenwood; brother-in-law, Dwayne Pope and wife, Lisa. He had six nieces and seven nephews: Meredith Martin; Kerrah, and husband, Cole Turner; Natalie Oliver; Abby, and husband Lance Hunt; Celi Bruce, Kaleigh Greenwood, Grant Bruce and wife, Kelsie; Blake Bruce and fiance, Katy Getzendaner; Wil Oliver and wife, Stefani; Jon Cox and wife, Jaclyn; Mitch Cox; Grant Greenwood and wife, Sierra; Derek Pope and wife, Katy. Jon also had nine great-nieces and seven great-nephews. He was loved by many special people including Abigail Hendrix and Kaycee Green, which he considered family.

Because of current state/county regulations, the family will not have a formal visitation.  A public viewing for friends will be held on Thursday, August 13, from 5:00-8:00 p.m.at the Waxahachie Civic Center. A celebration of his life and service with the Waxahachie Fire Department will be held Friday, August 14, at 10:00 a.m. at the Waxahachie Civic Center. A private, family burial will be held at the Wilson Cemetery on West Business 287. If desired, the family requests that donations be made to the Jon Wilson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Prosperity Bank, 401 Ferris Avenue, Waxahachie Texas 75165, or Stonegate Church, 4025 US-287, Midlothian.  Arrangements are with the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
