Jerry Mccarroll

February 3, 1945 — July 2, 2021

Waxahachie

On Friday, July 2, 2021, Jerry Lynn McCarroll, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many passed away peacefully, at VITAS Inpatient Hospice in Dallas, at the age of 76, with loved ones by his side.

He was born on February 2, 1945, in Batesville, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Patricia “Pat” Lou McCarroll; his parents Boyd Lynn & Nora Maxine McCarroll; brother Johnny McCarroll; sister-in-law Doris McCarroll; and grand-daughter Gracie Jo McCarroll.

Jerry (Daddy/Papaw) will be forever cherished by his sons Tommy McCarroll and James McCarroll; daughters Tressa Gregory (and husband Keith), and Shannon Owen (and husband Steven); Grandchildren April Greenberg (and husband Brandon); Amber Plattenberger (and husband Scott); Kevin McCarroll (and wife Sanada); Kourtnee Hayes; Shauna Steele; Austin McCarroll (and wife Angel); Tyler McCarroll; Sterling Owen; Slade Owen, and Skyler McCarroll; and Great-grandchildren Brady & Ashlyn Greenberg; Blaine, Bryant, & Azaria McCarroll; Annalinne Hayes; Connor, Khaleesi, & Arya Stroud; Karlee Plattenberger; and Sherre, Austin Jr., & Travis McCarroll.

He also leaves behind brothers Terry McCarroll (and wife Kathy), Mike McCarroll (and wife Karmen), and Conny McCarroll (and wife Nancy Rogers); a sister Shelby McCarroll Bray; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; extended family; and many beloved friends that he adored.

Jerry grew up in Arkansas and moved to Texas in elementary school. He lived most of his life around the DeSoto/Lancaster, Texas area. He worked as a truck driver for many years, doing both long and short hauls all over the country- picking up souvenirs along the way. Over the years, he had a few hobbies that included working on cars (both for himself and for others), racing cars, horses (he dappled in raising them and watching them race). He had a never-ending love for his grandkids and great grandkids. He very much enjoyed surprising them with various tokens to show his appreciation (silver dollar coins, candies, and other trinkets that he would find while out on the road.) He was always good for a fresh, hot cup of black coffee-any time of day; and you better believe that he never left the house without a cap on his head and a plaid, button-down shirt with the front pockets stuffed full of business cards, pens, and anything else he thought was important. He always made sure to have your best interest at heart, especially during his long good-byes.

While Jerry suffered with chronic pain for most of his life, we find comfort in knowing that he is resting and at peace with his loved ones that have passed before him.
