Herbert Condor

March 15, 1948 — March 12, 2020

Waxahachie

Bruce was born on March 15, 1948 in Waxahachie, Texas to HB (Red) and Sybil Condor.  He passed away on March 12, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family.  He was a lifelong resident of Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1966.  He married the love of his life, Nita Jean Bell, on June 14, 1967.

He wore many hats during his life. From 1968-1974, he and Nita were house parents at the Texas Baptist Home for Children.  For the first four years, they took care of the younger children and the last three years, they cared for all of the teenage boys.  He taught those children many life skills, took them to church, and showed them how to fish and hunt.  One of the boys came to live with him and his family when he had nowhere else to go after graduation.

In 1975, he and Nita left the Baptist Home to work in the family business, Condor’s Child Care.  He took care of the business end and ‘fun’ activities while Nita taught the Preschool and Kindergarteners.  There were many a fierce kickball games in the backyard with him being ‘all-time pitcher’, as well as many outings to the local roller skating rink, movie theater, and Optimist Swimming Pool.  At this time, Condor’s Child Care is taking care of a few 3rd generation children of families who all attended the daycare.  He had an amazing impact on many generations of children.

He was an avid outdoorsman and his happiest times were taking his family and friends fishing and hunting.  He LOVED to fish and he really enjoyed teaching others how to fish.  Seeing the smiles on their faces after ‘hooking a big one’ made it all worthwhile.  He also loved going to his daughter and son-in-law’s ranch to hunt deer and fish the tanks.  In the evenings, all of the family would sit around the campfire to hear him tell funny stories of his childhood along with a few good jokes.  He was a GREAT storyteller!

Bruce was a member of Farley Street Baptist Church for over 50 years.  He and Nita taught the 3rd grade Sunday School class for many years and he really enjoyed playing (and coaching) the church softball league.

Family was everything to him.  In his final days, it was so very important to him to be able to tell each of us goodbye.  He was such a decent, strong man and his love for us NEVER waivered.  He is survived by: his loving wife of nearly 53 years, Nita; two children, Angela Glass and husband Bobby of Dallas, and Robert Condor and wife Janna of Waxahachie; his grandchildren, Hunter Glass and wife Sara, Brooke Glass, Monroe Glass, Madeline Condor, Asa Condor, Caroline Condor, and Charlotte Condor; and two great-grandsons, River Glass and Bobby Glass. Other surviving family members include: his brother, Brian Condor and wife Debbie; his sister, Becky Kubala and husband Richard; his aunt, Sandra Bassinger and husband Jerry; his mother-in-law, Anita Bell; brothers-in-law – Keith Bell, Richard Bell, and David Bell and wife Tara; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bruce was welcomed into heaven by his parents, father-in-law, and many other family and friends.  We know they have already picked out a perfect fishing spot and are passing out the Spam sandwiches and Dr. Peppers while they wait for the fish to bite.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Peter Wood, Dr. Asbury, Dr. Thomison, Bristol Hospice and Fidelis Home Health for helping us take care of him in his final days.

Pallbearers are: Robert Condor, Bobby Glass, Hunter Glass, Asa Condor, Jody Condor, and Johnny Thompson.  Honorary Pallbearers are: Brian Condor, Mike Willis, Keith Bell, Richard Bell, David Bell, John Wilkins, Jim Beller, and Brad “Sarge” Johnson.

We appreciate your attendance and the support you are offering to the family.
