Helen Sims

Proverbs 31:25-31 describes the lady that Helen represented in life.  “Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom; and on her tongue is the law of kindness. She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her. Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

The love she shared through the open door that was always her home. Helen was a lady of unwavering faith in the Living God, who lives today because of the grace given through her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Helen Louise Sims was born September 27, 1942 to J.D. and Louise Kirk in Galveston, TX.  She was the youngest of four in a house of love and labor. She grew up in the country on the Cawthon Farm just south east of Waxahachie.  Helen graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1961 and loved helping plan and attend her class reunions.  She was the Senior Princess, Beacon Valentine Sweetheart, WHS Varsity Cheerleader her Sophomore and Junior years and Head Cheerleader her Senior year and P.E. Officer. She was loved by all her classmates.

She married the love of her life, J.B. Sims on July 31, 1965 at Bethel Methodist Church.  They have been married for almost 57 years. Their love lasted through droughts, bumper crops, recessions, rodeo’s and three sons, Heath, Britt and Glenn. The wife of a farmer and rancher was not always easy but taking three boys to Mrs. Rilla’s shopping took a special soul, and she was just that, a special soul.

Helen worked 4 years after graduating high school for Texas Power and Light in downtown Dallas where she was the secretary for the President of TP&L. After stepping down from her role with TP&L she began the toughest job of her life, raising the wrecking crew.  In 1985 she became the Church Secretary for First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie and served in that role for 22 years. After retiring from FUMC, Daryl Nay offered her a job at the Nay Company where she worked full time for almost 15 years until April 2022.  In her spare time she loved writing personalized poems as gifts to her family.

She was preceded into eternal life by her Savior Jesus Christ, her parents J.D. and Louise Kirk, her in-laws J.H. and Jimmie Sims.  She is survived by her husband J.B. Sims of 57 years, children Heath and Charlesa Sims, Britt and Dina Sims and Glenn Sims. Grandchildren Seth and Kelsey Sims, Shance and Ashtin Sims, Ryan and Jordan Heflin, Kaley and Matthew Wolf, Sara Sims, Cade Sims and Cassie Sims.  Great Grandchildren Charlie Jo Sims, Parker Jade Sims, Sawyer Heflin, Hudson Heflin, Crew Wolf, Beckham Wolf. Sister June Saunders, brothers and wives Kenneth and Mae Delle Kirk, Jerold and Janice Ann Kirk and many nieces, nephews, cousins that she loved dearly.  Really everyone was her family.

Helen was an angel that God placed among us all.  Her smile, hugs and supper table will be remembered by so many.  She was the welcome mat to her home, Bethel Church and as a living witness to Jesus Christ.
