Elwanda Pevehouse

November 7, 1922 — January 18, 2022

Waxahachie

Elwanda Jewel Pevehouse passed away at her home, January 18, 2022, with her daughters at her side. She was born in Frost, Texas on November 7, 1922. It was there that she was raised, attended schools, and played basketball, a sport which she dearly loved and was a major contributor to the success of her team. It was, also, in that small country town, that she met and married the love of her life, S.L. Pevehouse. Once again she found she dearly loved her role as wife and eventually mother to four children. She has been a major contributor to their success as she taught them about the amazing love she poured out to them. She was quiet, yet strong. Her strength came from the Lord. She quietly led and never realized the legacy she would leave on this world nor the impact she made on her family and friends. She was employed later in her life at Haggar Slacks and Band Man Uniform Manufacturers. Eventually, she started her own alterations business out of her home. She was an amazing seamstress and her business was blessed. She was also courtside, from her living room, for every Dallas Mavericks basketball game and was one of their most passionate fans.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Jewel & Ruth Smith, the love of her life S.L. Pevehouse, sister Juanita Ruth and husband James Moore, brother William Price Smith and wife Glenna.

She is survived by children William L. Pevehouse and wife LouAnn, Morris L. Pevehouse and wife Glenda, Pamela K. Carpenter and husband Larry, Rebecca A. Pierce and husband Jerry; grandchildren – Cassy and Duane Moore, Jeremy Pevehouse, Amber Pevehouse, Chris and Kim Pevehouse, Kim and Mark Brown, Chad and Carol Carpenter, Caitlin Shell, Calli and Elijah Daniel; great grandchildren- Joshua and Kaitlyn Moore, Caleb and Alexis Moore, Alyssa Pevehouse, Abbie Pevehouse, Bradley Brown, Brody Brown, Christine Lopez; great great grandchild – Jayden Lopez, a special niece and great nephew Lucan Watkins and Graham Watkins who have been a blessing in her life and who were also blessed by her love for them as well as a host of other nieces and nephews. While this would seem a large family, it was not too large for her. She knew where each one was, what they were doing and she supported them by prayer, phone calls, cards and attended sporting events, graduations and weddings. She never forgot anyone!

Elwanda was a member of Ferris Heights United Methodist Church in Waxahachie. She loved her church and church family who have loved her well even though she has been unable to attend in recent years. For this, her family is thankful
