Don Hurst

July 7, 1935 — September 4, 2020

Ferris

Don Dan Hurst went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 4, 2020.  He was born July 7, 1935 to Robert and Alta Mae (Bryant) Hurst, the fifth of six children.  Don was born and raised in Ferris, Texas and was a member of the Ferris High School Class of 1953 where he graduated as Valedictorian.  After high school, he spent a year in Taiwan working for a civilian corporation that assisted the U.S. Military.  After returning from Taiwan, he attended and graduated from Southern Methodist University with an Engineering Degree. Don moved to Greenville, Texas in 1982 where he enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career as an Electrical Engineer for LTV Electrosystems, Inc./ E-Systems. Inc. and made lifelong friends including his neighbor and “walking buddy” Vicki.  Don moved to Waxahachie in 2019 to be closer to family due to health issues.

Don loved people and people loved Don.  His dry sense of humor and quick wit made for fun and laughter wherever he went.  He loved his family, family gatherings and thoroughly enjoyed attending the Ferris High School Reunions to see all his friends from his school days.  He was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and lived out his faith by caring for his Mother until her death in 1989.

Don is survived by brother-in-law, Tommy Lee Mohundro of Bristol, Texas and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Billy and Kenneth Hurst, sisters Joyce Grounds, Betty Huskerson, Bobbie Lou Mohundro, nieces Sherrye (Hurst) Camp-Banks, Lou Ann (Huskerson) Ratzlaff, Dana Huskerson and great-nephew Daniel Grounds.

The family acknowledges and appreciates the care and compassion of Brookdale Senior Living Solutions of Waxahachie, Traditions Hospice and the Healthcare Professionals on the 5th floor at Baylor Scott & White – Waxahachie.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks you prayerfully consider a gift in memory of Don to the Church or Charity of your choice.  He will forever be remembered as “Uncle Don”.
