Alfred Murray Travis

September 10, 1935 ~ January 9, 2021 (age 85)


Alfred Murray Travis, aged 85 passed away peacefully on January 9, 2021 in Carrollton, Texas. He was born to Hubert C. Travis and Irene Buchanan Travis on September 10, 1935 in Navasota, Texas. He spent most of his life in Ellis County in Sterrett, Forreston, and Waxahachie. He met the love of his life, Ann Ball Travis in high school in Forreston. They married on December 22, 1956 and spent a lifetime of 64 married years being role models for a great love and marriage.

Alfred was a graduate of Waxahachie High School and later earned his Bachelor and Masters of Education from North Texas State College in Denton. He worked in public education serving as a football coach and school counselor in Era, Tx, Midland, Tx, Arvada, Co, and Milford, Tx. He also served many years as Director of the Presbyterian Children’s Home in Waxahachie. Many remember his positive impact on their lives as they lived there.

An avid fisherman, he gave his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren a love for the outdoors, camping and fishing. Daddy to his daughters and Pawpaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren; he motivated each of us to reach for our goals and to be the best we can be. He spent a great deal of time with each of us providing us with precious memories and stories to carry on. Traveling was another passion he shared with his family. On any family trip his presence is felt as we do not fail to think of how he would enjoy being with us. He was an active member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Waxahachie for many years. Alfred also attended the Cowboy Church of Ellis County faithfully for many years. He enjoyed cooking for the Wednesday morning Men’s Breakfast. He enjoyed cooking and often brought chili to friends and family.

Alfred has joined his mother and father, Hubert C. And Irene Travis who have preceded him in death. Those who will miss and remember him always include his wife of 64 year, Dolores Ann Travis. His three daughters, Kim Travis Scoggins and husband, Dale of Texas, Debra Travis Davis of Irving and husband Lance who also preceded him in death, and Leanne Travis of Dallas. His grandchildren gave him great joy and include Michelle Recksiek Castaneda and husband Adrian of Bellville, Amanda Recksiek and fiancé Chris West, of Corsicana ,Daniel Murray Recksiek and wife Alex of Colorado Springs, Co., Travis Matthew Recksiek and wife Lindsey of Corsicana, Kenneth Scoggins and wife Krystina, of Waxahachie and Brittany Scoggins of Arlington. Fifteen great grandchildren also filled his life with joy and fun.

A visitation will be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, located at 1826 W. Hwy. 287 Business in Waxahachie, Texas on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM followed by Interment at Red Oak Cemetery.
