Waxahachie

- Juan 16:22

Our papa, Abel Gallegos, at the age of 64, departed from this world on Monday, December 13, at 10:05 a.m. surrounded by his beloved relatives. Our papa was born in Zacatecas, Mexico on May 28, 1957, and was a proud resident of Waxahachie for the past 12 years.

He met his life partner while out with his new red dynamo bicycle, in the city of Cedral, San Luis Potosí when they were only 16 and 15 years old, after which they formed a marriage. In 1979, they made the decision to move to the United States looking for a new life for us in the city of Dallas, Texas. This was where his story of the struggle in how to survive and progress in this country began. His life at first was not easy, but all the time he knew how to excel to get us ahead. Although he only went to school as far as second grade, he learned not only to read and write Spanish, but also learned the language of this country (English) and fulfilled the goal of becoming a citizen of the United States.

He always guided us by his example, always bringing a lot of respect to people, and by being a great man of his word. His pride was his construction work where he worked for more than 35 years with the companies Leroy, HHH, Austin, and Manhattan. His favorite projects were where he received the greatest recognitions such as the Dallas Cowboys stadium where his name was engraved on a brick, American Airlines (Dallas Mavericks), Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, and Globe Life Field where the Texas Rangers play. For these efforts, he was recognized and interviewed by the news on the television channel, Univision.

His favorite pastime was to get home from work and grow his plants, vegetables, and fruits because he was always a man who liked the countryside. His garage was his second room where he had everything organized from the smallest to the largest screw. We all lovingly named his garage, Home Depot, but he had the condition for us to always return his tool or else his Home Depot was closed! And let’s not forget his semillas and chicharrones! He was an inquisitive person who always wanted to know "why" about everything and always wanted one's opinions, and if one did not know or had an opinion, then he would tell us “Let’s see, ask Google."

He lived a very quiet life next to his loving wife, always ensuring that neither she nor we lack anything. A wish of our papa was to have, for the second time, a 1979 Ford truck, red and white, and his dream came true this year. We thank God that he had the joy of enjoying his “BALA” during the last days of life. He showed great MEXICAN pride, and his legacy will never die and will continue living in our hearts.

So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. - John 16:22
