Susan Rogers

September 7, 1937 — December 28, 2022

Grand Prairie

Susan Eva Niles Rogers, 85, passed away at her home in Grand Prairie, Texas on December 28, 2022. She was born in Bennington, Vermont, the first child of Howard Preston and Alice Buck Randall Niles on September 7, 1937. She attended schools in Bennigton and upon graduation moved to New York to live. She moved from New York to Colorado and then to Texas, first living in Weslaco before finally settling in Grand Prairie where she lived until her passing.

Susan had lived at the Wright Senior Apartments in Grand Prairie since 2006. She was friendly and outgoing, and while she wasn't sure she would like apartment living, she made many lasting friendships. She nurtured those friendships, and shared her love of baking cookies and homemade bread.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother and sister-in-law, Randall Cabot and Rita Cora Bishop Niles.

Known as Sue and Susie to friends, she loved being called Mom, but cherished being called Mamaw, Nana, Mimi and G-Jane by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children: daughter Christina Harper and husband Will, son David Hernandez and wife Laura, son Patrick Hernandez and wife Patricia, daughter Lori Gillentine and husband Gary, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, and her precious cat, Tawny.

A memorial service will be held for Susan on Saturday, January 14th at 10:00am at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas. Officiating will be Rev. Val Stewart of First United Methodist Church in Waxahachie. At Susan's request, her ashes will be scattered near her childhood home in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
