Stephen Wiley Smith of Midlothian and longtime resident of Red Oak passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the age of 69.
Steve Smith was born to the late Joe and Doris Jean Smith on May 2, 1954 in Waxahachie. He lived in Red Oak until 2011. He attended 12 years of Red Oak schools and graduated in 1972. Steve attended Navarro College. Steve married Lisa Schmidt on June 30, 1979.
He worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and TXU before he retired from Waxahachie Independent School District in 2019.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Lisa of 44 years, daughter Casey and husband Josh, grandson Wyatt and granddaughter Mya, his sister Beverly and husband Jack, 3 nephews: Jeff, Mike and Alex and their wives and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Steve loved big and had so many close friends and family that meant the world to him. He was best known as Papa, he gave the best hugs and never met a stranger. He loved to watch Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He was proud to be cheering on his grandchildren in any sport they played. He loved good BBQ and good music. He will be missed by all who loved him.
In lieu of flowers you may make donations to First United Methodist Church of Red Oak at 600 Daubitz Dr. or donate a book in his memory to Nicholas P. Sims Library at 515 W. Main Street in Waxahachie.
