Ruth Marie Wilson Smith was born September 08, 1935 in rural Ellis County to Robert O. Wilson and Myrtle Dyess Wilson. After a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease she was healed and taken home to her heavenly Father. She was surrounded by family when she peacefully passed on September 28th at the age of 90.
Marie as she was called spent most of her school years in Forreston, Texas before graduating salutatorian in 1953 from Midlothian. After graduating she went to work for Wyatt food store at the age of 18. Kroger later bought Wyatts and she remained a faithful employee until her retirement at the age of 62. Marie loved cooking, the more the merrier at her house every Sunday. She also liked sewing, crocheting and writing poetry. In her last years most nurses received a crochet doilie and poem from her. More than anything she treasured her family and her faith. She was baptized by faith, growing up with a father, uncle and grandfather Primitive Baptist ministers. She took pleasure sharing that she had read the entire bible cover to cover twice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother, her sister Bobbie Lucille Bonner, brothers Roy Olan Wilson and Cliffell Jeffery Wilson. She was also preceded in death by a precious grandbaby Michael Van Carter and her husband of almost 50 years Carrie Lee Smith.
Marie leaves behind to cherish her memory Daughter Becky and her husband Lewis Bryant, Son Mark Smith and his wife Lisa, step sons Lee Smith and wife Lisa and Lynn Smith and wife Debbie and step daughter Sandra and husband Donnie Coble and her precious sister in law Iris Wilson. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
