Robert Lance Oden, 79, of Italy, Texas, passed away on July 21, 2026. He was born on December 7, 1946, in Plainview, Texas, to Cleburn Hardin Oden and Verna Lucille (Paxton) Oden.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. His time serving as an aircraft maintenance technician and airplane inspector at Bergstrom Air Force Base sparked a lifelong love of aviation that stayed with him throughout his life.After his military service, Robert worked as an automotive mechanic. He was a true goofball with a great sense of humor who loved making people laugh. He enjoyed airplanes, airshows, the Blue Angels, Pac-Man, sports, classic music, and the simple pleasures of life, especially a cold Dr Pepper, ice cream, and anything with peanut butter.

Above all, Robert loved his family. He will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his love of airplanes, and the joy he brought to those around him.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Sue Ella Oden; mother-in-law, Marie Welborn; children, Robert Oden and wife Melanie Oden, Susan Lewis, and Lesa Oden; grandchildren, Andrew Oden, Stephanie Davied, Alex Oden, and Candace Lewis; several great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Roy Welborn, Norma Welborn, Debra Melin, Larry Welborn and wife Darlene Welborn, and Sharon Stanley and husband David Stanley; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleburn Hardin Oden and Verna Lucille (Paxton) Oden; father-in-law, Travis Emery Welborn; and brother, Travis Welborn.

Robert’s family will forever cherish the laughter, memories, and love he shared throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
