Robert Lee Compton, a lifelong resident of Waxahachie, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2026, at the age of 89. He leaves behind a legacy defined by unwavering faith, devotion to family, and a brilliant, joyful spirit that could light up any room.

Robert’s story began on April 23, 1937, born to Homer and Betty Compton in Waxahachie. It was in his beloved stomping grounds of Fort Worth TX that he met the love of his life, Genevia Anne. To hear Robert tell it, it was love at first sight. Ever the persistent man, he won her heart, and the two were quickly wed on June 5, 1957. Together, they shared a beautiful, enduring love story that spanned 64 years until Genevia’s passing in 2021. Robert dedicated his life to providing for his family, working tirelessly so that Genevia could stay home, tend to their household, and raise their children.

A man of great work ethic and integrity, Robert spent many dedicated years building a career with Tyler Refrigeration. When the company eventually relocated to Mexico, Robert didn't skip a beat—he leaned into his talents and successfully started his own carpentry and painting business, serving his community with pride.

To know Robert was to know joy. He was a genuine family man who cherished every single moment spent with those he loved. He was also quite the comedian, always cutting up, telling jokes, and bringing laughter wherever he went. He never met a stranger, and as the years went on, he became a master storyteller, captivating his grandchildren and anyone else lucky enough to listen. Robert enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: good country music, playing cards with friends and family, shooting pool, and throwing horseshoes. Above all, Robert cherished his deep faith in the Lord and loved to share the gospel with others, a comfort that guided him throughout his entire life.

Robert is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Genevia Anne Compton; his parents, Homer Compton Sr. and Betty (Garner) Compton; his daughter, Cindy Thomas; his son, Greg Compton Sr.; his granddaughter, Nicole Winsett; his sisters, Ludean Green, Betty Robinson, Merle Dawson, Wanda Harris, and Bonnie Angle; and his brothers, Homer Compton Jr., W.O. (Billy) Compton, and Herman Compton.

His love and legacy live on through his surviving children: Bobby, Ronnie, R.L., Trina, and Angie. He is also survived by his 10 cherished grandchildren: Eric, Little Robert, Little Greg, David, Amanda, Cody, Justin, Josh, Zoie, and Riley; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, extended family, and a host of dear friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Robert’s remarkable life will be held and updated at a later date.
