Robert Lee Compton, a lifelong resident of Waxahachie, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2026, at the age of 89.
Robert’s story began on April 23, 1937, born to Homer and Betty Compton in Waxahachie. It was in his beloved stomping grounds of Fort Worth TX that he met the love of his life, Genevia Anne. To hear Robert tell it, it was love at first sight. Ever the persistent man, he won her heart, and the two were quickly wed on June 5, 1957.
To know Robert was to know joy. He was a genuine family man who cherished every single moment spent with those he loved. He was also quite the comedian, always cutting up, telling jokes, and bringing laughter wherever he went. He never met a stranger, and as the years went on, he became a master storyteller, captivating his grandchildren and anyone else lucky enough to listen. Robert enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: good country music, playing cards with friends and family, shooting pool, and throwing horseshoes. Above all, Robert cherished his deep faith in the Lord and loved to share the gospel with others, a comfort that guided him throughout his entire life.
Robert is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Genevia Anne Compton; his parents, Homer Compton Sr. and Betty (Garner) Compton; his daughter, Cindy Thomas; his son, Greg Compton Sr.; his sister, Cindy Parris; his granddaughter, Nicole Winsett; and his nine siblings.
He is survived by his children, Angie Collins, Trina Compton, and R.L. Compton; his grandchildren, Greg Compton Jr., Robert Compton, Riley Compton, Cody Compton, David Compton, Amanda Evans, Zoie Clark, Joshua Allen, Justin Allen, and Eric Compton; along with many, many cherished great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Robert’s remarkable life will be held at Getzendaner Park in Waxahachie, Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 3:00-9:00pm.
