Robert Battersby passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. He was born in Johnston, Rhode Island on March 25, 1929 to William and Gladys Lawton Battersby. One of four children, proceeded in death by sister, Norma Battersby Sparling, and brother, William Battersby and survived by Kenneth Battersby, all from Rhode Island. His long-detailed recollection of history was better than many history books. He loved researching relatives in the UK with Kenneth and his niece Jean. He married Mary Simonelli in 1955 and remained best of friends until her death. To his longtime friends he was known as Bob, with whom he stayed in touch throughout his life. To his numerous nephews and nieces, he was known as Uncle Bob. He loved entertaining them with an endless sense of humor. To his Grandchildren, Christopher Battersby of Waxahachie, Brian and Robert Battersby he was known as Gran Pa, or GP. To his Great Grandchildren Kaylee and Blake Battersby of Waxahachie he was well loved.

He served his Country in the US Navy for 2 years and the US Air Force for 4 years. He received the Korean Service, United Nations Defense and the Defense Service medals. With assistance he would stand for the National Anthem. He spoke English, conversational Japanese and Spanish. He retired from retail management after 39 1/2 years at McCrory stores located in Dallas Texas until retirement in 1994. After retirement he was a Non-Commissioned Security Officer for the State of Texas. To his children Bonnie Battersby in Waxahachie, and Richard Battersby, his wife Sherri he lived his life with Commitment, Compassion, Charity and most of all unconditional love. Robert Battersby was an incredible Man and Father who lived a long and wonderful life.
