Paul Louis Schultz, age 87, of Red Oak, Texas, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Paul was born on June 25, 1939, in the small Texas town of Posey, Texas, to Lawrence and Marie Schultz. He was raised in Smyer, Texas, where he attended high school and proudly played both basketball and football.

In March 1963, Paul was drafted into the United States Army. He faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in June 1985, retiring after more than 22 years of service. During his distinguished military career, he completed two tours in Vietnam and earned numerous commendations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal. His military service reflected the values he carried throughout his life—duty, honor, integrity, and selfless service.

On March 1, 1967, Paul married the love of his life, Sylvia Schultz. Together they built a life centered on family and shared more than 59 wonderful years of marriage. Nothing brought Paul greater joy than the family they built together.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Schultz; his daughters, Shirley, Beverly, and Becky; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Marie Schultz; his siblings, Robert, Ann, James, and John; and his beloved son, Hal.

Paul will be remembered for his quick wit, unwavering work ethic, and the remarkable ability to make everyone he met feel like an old friend. He truly never met a stranger. He always had a joke to tell and an opinion to share, and usually wasn't shy about either one. Those who knew him understood that, whether he was making them laugh or giving them advice, it always came from a place of love. He wanted the best for the people he cared about, and even when he was stubborn, his heart was always in the right place.

As a young boy, Paul loved working alongside his father on the family farm, where he developed the work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. Whether tending his garden, firing up the barbecue for family and friends, or working on a project in the yard, Paul believed there was value in doing things the right way. He took pride in working hard, caring for his home, and providing for the people he loved.

Above all else, Paul was devoted to his family. He never missed an opportunity to brag about his children, grandchildren, and the generations that followed to anyone who would listen. While he was proud of his military service and the accomplishments of his life, those who knew him best will remember him most for the way he treated people. Paul instinctively put others before himself, always willing to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return. He was the leader of his family, a steady source of strength and guidance, and someone his loved ones could always count on.

Paul leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, laughter, and unconditional love. His stories will continue to be told, his lessons will continue to be passed down, and the example he set through his life will live on in the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
