Oscar Floyd Shinpaugh, age 90, a life long resident of Waxahachie, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 22, 2022. Born February 2, 1932 in Waxahachie to parents, Josephus and Gertrude Shinpaugh.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War where he served on the USS Andromeda. In 1958, he joined the Dallas Police Department where he served for 33 years and retired in 1991 at the rank of Sergeant. Upon retirement he went to work for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department (DART) from 1991 to 1998. He was also a Mason.
In his spare time Oscar loved to spend time with the love of his life, his wife Barbara Jean (“Jean”) and his family who adored him. He loved to fish and hunt with his twin boys.
He is preceded in death by: his son, Tony Curtis Hitt; siblings Edward Shinpaugh, Virginia Slayden, Jo Frances Griffin, and Eva Nell Mauldin.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara Jean (Jenkins) Shinpaugh of Waxahachie; his twin sons, Oscar Dwayne Shinpaugh (and wife Wendy) and Floyd Layne Shinpaugh (and wife Stephanie) all of Waxahachie; Grandchildren, Holly B. Shinpaugh, Jonathan L. Shinpaugh (and wife Hannah), Macey Shinpaugh and Maddie Shinpaugh; great grandchildren, Elizabeth (“Ellie”), Holtin, Charlotte and Liam; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Oscar was a “gentle giant”…...a big man with a big heart who never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him.
