Maurice Lee Schiller was born on Jan 21st, 1941 in Rosenberg, TX to Simon and Bessie Schiller. He graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School and joined the Naval Reserves before attending Wharton County Junior College. He went on to Texas A & M, where he received a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering and was always very proud to be an Aggie!

After college, he received a commission as an Ensign and finished as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy and spent three years in Monterey, CA, teaching at the Navy Post Graduate School.

Upon leaving the Navy, he worked as a Software Engineer for General Dynamics in San Diego, CA.

In 1979, Maurice returned to Texas, living in Arlington to be closer to family. He then worked for LTV (now Lockheed-Martin) in Grand Prairie, TX as a Software Engineer until his retirement in 2006.

It was in 1979, at Fielder Road Baptist Church that he met Gloria, a widow with 2 young children: Janice (12 yrs old) and Wendell (10 yrs old), and they began dating. After just a few dates, Gloria’s daughter, Janice, was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoma-a very aggressive cancer. That did NOT deter Maurice! And it was with his help that Gloria made it through that very difficult time. She felt that God had brought him into her life at that time for that very reason! Maurice always thought of Janice and Wendell as though they were his own children, and in June of 1980, Maurice and Gloria were married and began their family. In November of 1983, God blessed them with their son, John Timothy Schiller!

Maurice had a deep love for the Lord Jesus and his greatest desire was to study God’s Word and share His Word with others. He also had a dedicated heart of service and ministered as a deacon at his church in San Diego, CA, in Arlington, TX, and here at Waxahachie Bible Church.

When Maurice retired, he and Gloria decided to move to the “country” and ended up in Midlothian. After visiting several churches, they were led to Waxahachie Bible Church, where Maurice was almost immediately invited to join some of the church’s many ministry groups, including the “ROMEO’s” and Lou Hahn’s Sunday School class. He was ordained as a deacon and ministered in various Bible studies and prayer groups over his years of service.

Maurice made wonderful, lasting friendships here at Waxahachie Bible Church and had no doubt that God wanted him to serve Him here. He loved sharing God’s Word best, leaving copies of the New Testament in restaurants and hotels wherever he traveled and with whomever he had the opportunity to share God’s love.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Bessie and stepdaughter, Janice.

Maurice is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Schiller of Midlothian TX; his sister, Linda Reeh of Needville TX; his son John Schiller and wife Annie of Dallas TX, his stepson Wendell Bunch and wife KC of Sturgis South Dakota, as well as a number of step grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 6th, at Waxahachie Bible Church. A luncheon will be served following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations made to Waxahachie Bible Church for the student's mission trip to bring the word of God to Honduras.
