Matthew Scott Garcia passed away at the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California on July 22, 2021 at the age of 41. Matthew was a resident of San Diego County for the last 19 years and before leaving the military stationed at various location across the United States but considered the San Diego area as his permanent home.

Matthew was born March 10, 1980 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas to Maria and Arturo Joe Garcia. After the attack on the twin towers in New York City, Matthew joined the US Marines. He stayed in the military for over 11 years and achieved the rank of E-6 Staff Sergeant. Matthew served two tours of duty in Afghanistan while attached to the HMH-462 & HMH-463 Marine Helicopter Squadrons. Matthew received his Bachelor of Science degree (Management) from Wayland Baptist University Plainview, Texas. Matthew was a 100% disabled American Veteran suffering from PTSD thus remained single and never married.

Matthew is survived by his mother Maria and father Arturo Joe Garcia of Red Oak; his sister April and husband David Starks Jr. of Waxahachie; his nephews Ethan and Ian Starks of Waxahachie; his grandmother Sara Acevedo of Waxahachie; Matthew is also survived by aunts, uncles, and their children. Matthew is preceded in death by his grandparents Rosa and Ysidro Garcia, Jimmy Acevedo; his Uncles Joe Garcia, Bob Garrison. Matthew was foremost a son, good friend, and had his own way of doing things. He had a passion for fast cars, motorcycles, bicycles and also making you laugh. He was a gentle, strong, and a kind person. He will be missed dearly by those who knew him best.
