Margaret Gammon

April 11, 1924 — September 7, 2018

Margaret Zoe Worthington Gammon, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, was called home on September 7, 2018 at the age of 94 in Dallas, TX.

Zoe was born on April 11, 1924 in Palmer, TX to Carl and Margaret (Cash) Worthington and graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1941. She married Warren Tayman Gammon on March 27, 1942, and became mother of two children: Bob and Carla.

Defined by her work ethic, love for family and commitment to community, Zoe had close ties to both Dallas and Waxahachie. She worked in the fashion industry at Gammon of Dallas Clothing Manufacturer and often entertained family and friends on holidays in her historic home featured on the Waxahachie Gingerbread Trail Tour. She stayed connected to the Waxahachie community at WHS Homecoming reunions with an unstoppable presence for more than 65 years running. But her greatest joy was becoming "Mamaw" to her 5 grandchildren and "GG" to her 7 great-grandchildren.

She was known for her generosity, brevity, honesty, loyalty and sharp wit. A true Texan lady, Zoe never missed a "beauty shop" appointment and had a can of hairspray at the ready by her bedside…even through to her last days. Those close to Zoe will forever remember her as an avid reader with her morning coffee in one hand and a crossword puzzle or novel in the other. She was a medical marvel, always defying the odds, and that was how she lived her life. Blessed with great survival skills, she enjoyed the gift of time to watch over 3 more generations.

Zoe was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Carl, and two best friends: younger brothers Carl Worthington (Ned) and Roy Worthington (Beverly). She is survived by her children: Robert J. Gammon (Susan) and Carla Gammon LaBarba (Sherman); grandchildren: Jeff LaBarba, Julie LaBarba Miggins, MD (Robert), Jennifer LaBarba McLochlin (Michael), Taylor Gammon (Amber), Mitchell Gammon; and great-grandchildren: Lily, John Carlo, Patrick and James Miggins; Griffin, Henry and Caroline McLochlin, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Our family is grateful for the capable and caring hands of Dr. Belinda Vicioso, Dr. Amy Johnson, Nurse Mihoko Abegunde as well as the devoted caregivers at Brookdale Preston and Anchor of Hope Hospice Care.

A private burial will be followed by a memorial service on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, 2:00 p.m. in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 W. Hwy 287, Waxahachie, TX, 75165.
