Lyall Walker Kirton, 78, of Italy, Texas passed away on December 10, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 29, 1941 to Alexander and Netta Lee Kirton.
Lyall lived a life of service to both his family and his community. One of his proudest service achievements was when he became a Deacon of the Central Baptist Church in Italy, Texas in 2013. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps and National Guard. He retired with the rank of Sergeant Major from the National Guard. Lyall spent many years working for the Waxahachie Daily Light as the Circulation Manager and Advertising Director; the City of Italy as City Administrator and then went on to work for the Wayne Boze Funeral Home.
Lyall is survived by his daughter Libby Jones (Clayton) of Mesa, AZ and sons Rick Dodd (Tanya) of Tempe, AZ; Joey Kirton (Laura) of Italy, TX; Rob May of Italy, TX; Chris May of Cleburne, TX; Brett Kirton of Italy, TX; his brother John Kirton (Peggy) of Lindale, TX. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Alyssa Kirton, his parents and a sister Irma Alsup.
A visitation and memorial service for Lyall will be held on Saturday, December 14, at Central Baptist Church in Italy, Texas. The visitation will begin at 9:30 am and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Lyall’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
