Please feel free to meet us at the funeral home, Tuesday, July 21st by 12:00pm, we will be driving in procession to the cemetery. We will depart from the funeral home at 12:15pm. If you choose to meet us there, when entering the cemetery from Mountain Creek Parkway, turn right onto Tejas Blvd, then keep right and follow the sign "LANES". Our assigned lane number will be Lane 2.

Lester Ray Mitchell, 85, of Red Oak, Texas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Lester was born in Oblong, Illinois and moved with his family to Osage, Iowa where he completed his education.

After graduating high school in Osage, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. Following military duty, Lester worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) as a Distribution Specialist and retired in 1991. Subsequently, he worked an additional 20 years for Foxworth-Galbraith in Red Oak, Texas where he managed contract sales and computer orders among many other responsibilities.

Lester believed in serving others beyond career. He was an active member of the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club International, always willing to lend a helping hand and support his community.

Lester’s family was central to his life. He served in leadership and support for Scouting and school activities for his children. He enjoyed outdoor adventures, camping, and fishing. Lester was proceeded in death by wife, Vanita Noel Mitchell, 1981, his parents and siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Oma Brown Mitchell; his children, Dana Mitchell (Misty), Melana Ewing (Chad), Deanna Tiffany (Rob), Lynetta Wood (Mike), and Michael James; his 14 grandchildren, Brittany Mitchell, Cameron Mitchell (Lexi), Amanda Gray (James), Bailey Ewing, Ryan Tiffany (Isabel), Robyn Tiffany, Reese Tiffany, Andrew Wood, Matthew Wood, Vanessa Wood, Emila James, Lucas James, Mia James, Levi James; and 5 great-grandchildren, Carson Gray, Zane Gray, Donovan Bembry, Anastasia Gray, and Hadley Mitchell.
