In Loving Memory of My Father
My father was, without a doubt, the smartest man I ever knew. Not just because of what he knew, but because of the way he understood people, life, and the world around him. He had a way of telling you what you needed to hear, not necessarily what you wanted to hear. And as much as you might not have wanted to hear it at the time, somehow, he was usually right.
He was the person you could count on when you were in a jam. No matter how difficult the situation, you always knew that Dad would be there. He might give you some advice you didn't particularly want, and he might make you see things from a perspective you hadn't considered, but he would never leave you to face it alone.
I am so incredibly proud to have known such a unique individual. There truly was no one else like him. And that is what makes saying goodbye so difficult. I know there will never be another man quite like my father. There will never be another voice with his wisdom, another personality like his, or another person who could fill the place he leaves behind.
Dad, you never wanted a funeral, and you never wanted a monument built in your name. You didn't need any of those things. Because the greatest monument you could ever leave behind isn't made of stone or words carved into a plaque.
It is the family you leave behind.
It is the people whose lives you touched, the lessons you taught, the memories you created, and the love you gave. And perhaps most of all, it is your two beloved grand girls. They are a living piece of you that will carry your memory, your stories, and your love forward for generations to come.
You may not have wanted a monument, Dad, but you left behind something far greater than one.
You left behind a family who loves you, who is proud of you, who will miss you beyond words, and who will never forget you.
There will never be another you.
And I will forever be grateful that I got to know you, to learn from you, and to call you my father.
Rest easy, Dad. You will always be with us.
