Judy Petty

October 30, 1941 — December 15, 2022

Midlothian

Judy Ann Bratton Petty was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 30, 1941, and passed from this world on December 15, 2022, at the age of 81.

Judy was the oldest child of Stella Marie and James Bratton. She lived most of her younger life in Oak Cliff. After her marriage, she also lived in Whitney, Alvarado, Maypearl, Venus, and Midlothian. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Petty, Sr, and grandson, Kyle Petty.

Judy did not have an easy life, but always tried to make the best of it.  She loved her family and spent her life taking care of her children and helping with her grandchildren whenever possible. Judy was a great cook—her fried chicken was often requested at family gatherings.  When her children were younger, she worked at the local café as well as in the schools.  In later years, she worked in the church nursery loving on the babies. She enjoyed playing chicken foot until failing eyesight made it too difficult. She still enjoyed a good game of bingo whenever possible and could always be found with a word search book nearby. She was a strong woman with a “spicy” attitude -- one always knew where they stood with her! Two of her favorite sayings were “whatever!” and “whatever floats your boat!”

Judy is survived by her children: Mark Prater (Sandra) of Dublin, TX; Kenny Petty (Mechelle) of Midlothian, Texas; Randy Petty (Jackie) of West Liberty, IA; and Kimberly Petty; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Jim Bratton (Robbie) of Weatherford, TX, sister Peggy Buhle of Dallas TX, sister Susie (Russel) Cross of Milford, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home in Waxahachie, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am immediately followed by a Celebration of Life service at 10:30 am. Judy will be buried with her late husband at the DFW National Cemetery.
