John Landrum, Sr.

John Nelson Landrum, Sr., 90, of Red Oak, Texas, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020.

FUNERAL:  Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19th, at Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 W. Hwy. 287 Business, in Waxahachie, Texas. Funeral service will also be held at Wayne Boze Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2020, with burial to follow at Bell Chapel Cemetery.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Texas Baptist Children’s Home in memory of John Landrum.

John was born on July 16, 1929, in Kress, Swisher County, Texas, to Netta Jewel Jackson and Sidney Franklin (Slim) Landrum, Sr.  He grew up in depression-era West Texas with his 4 brothers and 2 sisters. During the Korean War, John, 21, was drafted to serve in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas from February 8, 1951, until his reserve duty through November 7, 1956.

Upon his return to Odessa, Texas, he developed his love of music and frequently played at the Ward family home where he met his wife of 65 years, Mary Estelle Ward.  John and Mary were wed on June 15, 1954, and they have 3 children. John was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. In 1964, John began his long and distinguished career with the R. O. Mullins Company, which later became Romco Equipment Company. After 37 years of service, he retired at 73 in 2002.

John was predeceased by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife Mary of Red Oak, Texas; their children John Nelson Landrum, Jr. and wife Clara of Martins Mill, Texas; Greg Landrum, Sr. and wife Sherry of Mabank, Texas; Leslie Jacobs and husband Mark of Maypearl, Texas; as well as 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces
