Joel Juarez

March 17, 1951 — August 31, 2022

Waxahachie

Joel Juarez, 71, of Waxahachie, Texas was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on August 31, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 17, 1951 in San Benito, Texas to Benito and Esther Juarez. Joel was a graduate of Edinburg High School and grew up with his siblings, Elias, Ruth, Noelia, David, Belinda, and Zulema.

In 1971, he met the love of his life, Teresa, in the vegetable fields of south Texas. They married in Edinburg, Texas on September 15, 1973. He loved working in the fields with his dad and took several trips to Nebraska and Kansas delivering cotton. Joel and Teresa were blessed with two children, Leeon and Aseneth.

After moving to Waxahachie in 1983, he began his 33 year career working at Owens Corning where his beloved coworkers nicknamed him Blue. Joel’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He loved bringing donut holes to his grandchildren after working his 12 hour night shift. He also enjoyed giving them rides on his riding lawn mower and building a swing set in

the backyard for them. Taking his grandchildren back to the Valley to meet all of his friends and family was when he felt the most proud. Joel made many trips to the Valley to purchase trailer loads of watermelons, oranges, mangos, and melons. He was known to many as the “fruit man”. Many of those trips were made to raise money to support various youth activities for his church, Bethesda Assembly of God. He loved to help others and always seemed to find a way to put others’ needs before his own.

Joel had a passion for the Houston Astros, the San Antonio Spurs, the Texas Longhorns, and the Dallas Cowboys. High school football season was a highlight of each year and he couldn’t wait to purchase the Dave Campbell’s High School Football magazine each fall. He especially enjoyed following the Rio Hondo Bobcats and attended several games.

Joel is survived by his wife, Teresa Juarez, his son and daughter in law, Leeon and Laurie Juarez, his daughter and son in law, Aseneth and Malcom Marquez, his grandchildren, Ezekiel Mirabal, Christian Mirabal, Benjamin Juarez, Isaac Marquez, and Eliana Juarez, all of Waxahachie, Texas. He is also survived by his siblings, Elias Juarez of Texas City, Texas, David Juarez of Pasadena, Texas, Ruth Juarez of Austin, Texas, Belinda Ybanez of Waxahachie, Texas and Zulema Juarez of Waxahachie, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Benito and Esther Juarez, his sister, Noelia Escobar, and nephew, Jason Escobar.
