Listen to Obituary

Janis Dickinson-Butler, a faithful wife, mother, sister, Nana, and friend, entered into the presence of the Lord on February 18, 2026, at the age of 85.

Janis was born on February 19, 1940 in Waxahachie, TX to Ross and Virgie Mae Taylor Treese. She was one of three children. Janis grew up in Red Oak, TX and attended Red Oak High School. Janis came to know the Lord Jesus Christ at Glen Rose Methodist Encampment at the age of 12. Janis married her beloved Joe Dickinson when she was 16 on December 19, 1956. They were married for 50 years before Joe’s passing. Janis was the loving mother to her two children, Janita and Jeff. Janis worked as an accounting clerk for GMAC, a division of GM, until she retired at age 55. She faithfully served the Lord through her care and devotion to others. Janis loved attending church, serving the church through women’s and youth leadership, singing, and reading the Bible. Janis especially enjoyed her current Sunday school class (Sonshine class) at Pathway Baptist Church (formerly Farley Street Baptist Church). Janis married Carroll Butler on October 28, 2012. She loved shopping, travelling to see her loved ones, making new friends at car shows with Carroll, and doing what she did best – serving others. Even in her final days, her heart remained fixed on sharing Jesus and loving others.

Janis is survived by her husband, Carroll Butler; daughter, Janita (John) Guess of Red Oak, TX; and son, Jeff (Kathy) Dickinson on Graham, TX; granddaughters: Kelsie (Jeremy) Irion, Alyssa (Tom) Fleps, and Sadie (Derek) Footer; great-grandchildren: Kahlen and Kolten Irion; Thomas, Ben, Nelly Kate, and Luke Fleps; and Regan, Emma, Blair, and Jordan Footer; her treasured Horton family (Gary, Susan, Laura, and Audra); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janis was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Virgie Mae Treese; siblings, Berna Jean and Robert; and her late husband of 50 years, Joe Wayne Dickinson.
