James Oran Willis, 91, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026.

Born on August 17, 1934, in Limestone County, Texas, James was the son of Jessie Edward Willis and Eva Jewel Allen Willis. He spent his younger years in Groesbeck, where in 1955 he met the love of his life, Martha Morris. Together they built a marriage, a family, and a life that spanned decades.

James proudly served as a Sergeant in the Texas National Guard in Mexia before beginning a long career with Associated Springs. He worked there for many years before retiring, and he and Martha spent more than 37 years raising their family in Irving.

James was a simple man who found happiness in the things he loved most: his family, his faith, his garden, and a good woodworking project. He taught Sunday school at his church and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and encouragement with others. If you knew James, chances are you were lucky enough to receive a loaf of his famous banana bread. He loved making it and sharing it with family, friends, neighbors, and just about anyone who crossed his path.

He also enjoyed listening to country and gospel music, filling his home with favorite songs and treasured albums. Whether working in the garden, building something with his hands, or spending time with those he loved, James was happiest when surrounded by family.

More than anything, James will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving dad, proud Pawpaw, faithful friend, and a man who always put others before himself.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Martha Ruth Willis; daughter Sue Ussery and husband Randy; son Ricky Willis and wife Pamela; grandchildren Joshua Ussery and wife Sarah, Jared Ussery and wife Megan, and Zachary Willis and wife Brittany; great-grandchildren Taytum, Logan, Wyatt, Stetson, Brandenn, and Brentley; sister Alma Jewel Maynard; sisters-in-law and extended family members Adlyn Willis, Reba O'Connell, Glenda and Robert O'Neal, and Wanda Powell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, L.J. "Biggun" Willis, Jessie "Doc" Willis, and Eddie Willis.

The family takes comfort in knowing that James has gone to rest and that the memories he leaves behind will continue to be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
