Garey Richard Davis, 79, of Waxahachie, Texas went home to Jesus on February 21, 2026 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on August 21, 1946 to Ernest Richard Davis and Ethel Lee Oliver in Texarkana, Arkansas.
As a child, he was affectionately known as “Bucker”, a nickname his daddy called often as he was quite the handful. He spent his childhood wading the backwaters of Arkansas on his daddy’s shoulders, hunting ducks. His love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing followed him into adulthood. He was an avid outdoorsman and had many longtime friends he spent time hunting and fishing with. His wife and grandchildren were also blessed to spend time in a deer stand with him. His annual hunting trip to Kansas with his buddies was something he looked forward to each fall. Garey was a lifelong Arkansas Razorbacks fan. At just two years old he had already taught his great-grandbaby to yell “Wooo Pig Sooie”.
Garey graduated from Fouke High School and attended Southern Arkansas University on a football scholarship. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1966. After proudly serving his country, he became an electrician quickly working his way up to a manager’s position at TXU and owning his own business wiring houses as well. Along with being an electrician, he raised cattle. It was not uncommon for him to come home from a full days work just to get out in the pasture and take care of whatever needed to be done. Even in the weeks previous to his passing, he was still outside getting things done. Garey was a 53-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid walker. He walked three miles most mornings with his best friend and neighbor, Priscilla Parker, often sharing stories of his “tootie girl” Laila along the way.
Nothing compared to the love he had for his family. When he wasn’t working or hunting, he could always be found with a family member by his side. His fried fish was a staple at family gatherings. Garey was not only the best daddy in the world, but the love he had for Amy multiplied and poured over into his grandchildren and grew even greater when his great granddaughter Laila was born. There was nothing in this world he would not do for his family, and nothing in the world they wouldn’t do for him. He was the rock to his family. The person they called for everything, because he always had the answers.
Garey is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Landon Richard Jernigan. Parents, Ernest and Ethel Lee Davis, brother, Dale Davis and sister, Gloria Jean Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fay LeVerne Davis. Beloved daughter and loving caretaker, Amy Davis. Bonus son, Ronald Jones. Granddaughter, Laighton Contreras and husband Freddy. Great Granddaughter, his pride and joy, Laila Fay “Tootie” Contreras. Bonus Granddaughter, Hannah Park. Sister, Wanda Lee Harris and many Masonic Brothers, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and an abundance of friends.
Davis Strong, Davis Proud was something Garey lived by.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Garey’s home lodge where he was the current Worshipful Master, Waxahachie Masonic Lodge #90.
Garey was never one that enjoyed dress clothes. Per the family, boots and jeans will be fitting attire for his Celebration of Life.
