Edith Buchanan, 97 of Lancaster, TX passed away peacefully at her home doing what she loved best, working in her yard. Edith was born on September 7, 1928, to John Alec Neal and Lora Byrd Vincent Neal in Kentucky Town, TX.
Edith was raised in Texas, but her journey took her to many different states and adventures. Edith was a devoted wife to her husband. John Billy Buchanan and loving mother to her three daughters Meladene, Marta Gail and Marcia. She supported her husband through Bible College and followed him on his ministry path to all the places God called him. Edith and her husband John pastored the Apostolic Gospel Church in Hollsopple, PA faithfully for 29 ½ years and then retired back to their home state of Texas.
Edith’s greatest blessings were her children, Meladene Linker (Ben) Marta Gail Shaffer (Dale), and Marcia Lynn Garlesky (Jeffrey), with Marta Gail having the title of Edith Jr as she and Mom were so much alike.
Along with the joy her daughters brought her, her grandchildren – Amber, Jon, Jarad, Janna, Justin, Lamont, Miki, Timothy, George, Karli, Destiny and Amy Rose as well as her great grandchildren – Eliott, Christian, Allison, Liliana, Alexander, Benjamin, Abigail, Savannah, Adonijah, Zy’ir, Elysha, Keystyn, Zara, and Paisleigh were always so special in her life with many prayers prayed over them daily. She always enjoyed playing house with the girls or shooting BB guns with the boys. Her delight was making anytime at her house a fun time for them, planning tea parties and playing leapfrog. Her yard and house were always filled with toys that the kids could enjoy any time they visited. When she discovered how much her grandchildren loved Easter egg hunts, she hid eggs for them all summer long!
Edith not only loved her own family, but many families over the years were loved deeply and genuinely and made to feel as if they were part of the Buchanan family. She always would find people who were hurting and would
minister personally to them and pray fervently for their needs. Above everything else and everybody in her life, Edith was totally devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She spent time daily in prayer and Bible Study and loved to discuss the scriptures.
Edith was adored by everyone who met her. She was known for always being so generous with her time and money. If you had the privilege to visit her in her home, she might sneak you a 100-dollar bill or maybe even a bit more. She was generous with what God had given her.
Edith was the middle child, with seven siblings. She maintained a close relationship with all her siblings, nieces and nephews, calling and texting frequently when she became unable to visit in person.
Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband of 72 years, her parents, Sisters Ella Sizemore and Elsie Flowers, Brothers Thomas (Bud) Neal, Carlis Ray Neal, George Neal and Alvie Dean Neal. Her youngest sister, Emma Stickland currently resides in Wisconsin.
Visitation will be held at the Wayne Boze Funeral Home, 1826 West U.S. 287 Business, Waxahachie, TX 75165, on August 15, 2026, at 10:00-11:30 am with the funeral immediately following. Committal Service will be August 21, 2026, at 11:00 am at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude for all the love, prayers shared and acts of kindness displayed.
In Lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor her faith by requesting that donations be made in her name to the Revival Center Building Fund, 2940 FM 1446, Waxahachie, Tx 75167
