In Loving Memory of Douglas Leon Platts
May 20, 1947 – October 21, 2026
Douglas Leon Platts, born May 20, 1947, in New York City, passed away on October 21, 2026, in Waxahachie, Texas.
Douglas was the son of Russell and Grace Platts, who preceded him in death. He spent most of his life in California before making his way to Texas, where he continued to build memories with the people he loved.
Douglas married his first love, Cynthia Platts, in 1969. Together, they built a family and welcomed two daughters. Cynthia preceded him in death in 2013.
After losing Cynthia, Douglas was fortunate enough to find a second chance at love with Beverley Platts. They married on November 9, 2017, and shared a special chapter of life together.
Douglas was a man who never met a stranger. He had a kind heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and a way of making everyone around him feel welcome. He loved with all his heart and never left his family wondering just how much they meant to him. He was easygoing, adventurous, and always ready to get out, explore, and enjoy life.
He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, rarely missing an opportunity to watch them play in their sporting events. Whether cheering from the sidelines or simply spending time together, being there for his family brought him tremendous joy. If someone needed him, he was there. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter who it was or what was needed.
Douglas enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved playing the horse races, spending time at Bingo, trying his luck at the casino, and sitting on his dock fishing at the lake house. He enjoyed having fun, making memories, and spending time with those around him.
But above everything else, Douglas loved his family. They were his world, his greatest joy, and his first priority. He made sure they knew they came before anything else.
Douglas is survived by his loving wife, Beverley Platts; his daughter, Jenice Gardner, and her husband, Brent Gardner, of Waxahachie, Texas; and his three grandchildren, Brittiney Gardner, Mason Gardner, and Malia Gardner. He is also survived by his other daughter.
Though his passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will live on forever.
He never met a stranger, he was always there when someone needed him, and he loved his family with everything he had. That is the legacy he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
