Doris Fern Aday Payne, 95, passed away July 9, 2022. She was born in Kemp, Texas on February 10, 1927 to the late J.B. and Erma Aday.

After graduation from Waxahachie High School, she caught a train to Washington D.C. to work in the Office of Chemical Warfare Services. She came back to Waxahachie and married Leonard Payne in 1946.

Most of Doris's life was spent as a homemaker and mother. She was a member of what started as a sewing club but eventually became a once-a-month dinner club for 60 years. Later years she spent time playing "42" and Scrabble and quilting with the "Sunny Sewing Sisters".

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, a brother Joe and two sisters, Ann and Jeanne.

Doris is survived by her daughter Karen and husband David, grandchildren Drew and Lori Ballard, Leah and Quincy Whitehead and great-grandchildren Bryson Morgan and Jake Ballard.

The family would like to thank the angels working at Renaissance Healthcare Center for the care Doris received. The family would also like to thank Rena McNeal and Mary Pyburn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. http://www.alz.org/act
