Doris Owens

August 23, 1946 — October 12, 2019

Mansfield, Ohio

On the afternoon of Saturday, October 12, 2019, Doris Nelwyn Owens, age 73, made her journey home to our loving Savior’s arms.

Nelwyn was born on August 23, 1946 in Joaquin, TX to Ray Dickerson Sr. & Dell Dickerson.  She was raised with her siblings, Ginger, James, Ray Jr., Gene, Carolyn, Kenneth, Kay, Jackie and Mike, in Joaquin, TX and graduated there in 1964.

Nell always enjoyed spending time with her family, watching football, baking and reading.  Nell was always full of life and laughter.  She had a great sense of humor and always had a joke for you. She would call you funny names and make silly noises just to make you smile. Not only did she like to cook, she was a GREAT cook.  Her fried chicken was 2nd to none, and her biscuits and gravy would never leave you hungry.  Cooking was a great passion of hers and she always loved to bake.  You could always count on some sort of candy, cookie or bread being made and set out on her counter for enjoyment as you got closer to the holiday season.  Her house was always warm and inviting and you never felt like a stranger in it. She made a house a HOME and decorated for every season. The decorations in her home always reflected her spirit and it was never gloomy or gray.

Nelwyn met her best friend and the love her life, Samuel Richard Owens in 1965.  Sam and Nell were married April 23, 1965.  Together they had (4) children, Michael Allen Owens – married to Becky Owens, Samuel Douglas Owens – married to Bonnie Owens, Brian Keith Owens – married to Cindy Owens and Melissa Kay Carroll – married to Raymond Carroll. Sam and Nell spent 54 years in love and laughter.

Nell is preceded in death by her father, Ray Dickerson Sr, mother, Dell Dickerson, sister, Ginger Biehle, brothers, Ray Dickerson Jr., James Dickerson and Jackie Dickerson.

She leaves behind her beloved husband Sam Owens of Mansfield, Ohio, four children, Allen Owens of Liberty, Texas, Doug Owens of Mineral, Virginia, Brian Owens of Red Oak, Texas and Melissa Carroll of Coppell, Texas, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters Carolyn Ewing & Kay Glaze, brothers Gene Dickerson, Kenneth Dickerson and Mike Dickerson and several nieces & nephews. Nell will be remembered by her extended family and many dear friends.
