Bettye Stampley

November 28, 1933 — February 8, 2021

Waxahachie

Bettye Ruth Stampley, 87 of Waxahachie, entered the pearly gate on February 8, 2021 at Charlton Methodist Hospital of Dallas. She was born to the late James P. and Fannie S. Freeman, in Waxahachie on November 28, 1933. Bettye graduated from Ennis High School in 1950 and went on to get her degree at Draughon Business College.

She was married to her loving husband Richard L. Stampley on July 4, 1952, in Boyce Texas. She was a secretary for Burleson Honey for a short time before starting a family. She worked for many years as a childcare worker for Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ennis. She was a foster parent for many years and loved each child as if they were her own. She was well known for giving the best hugs ever but watch out for her cane.  She had a knack for story telling and loved reading books to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a passion for sewing and would work for hours getting the perfect stitches. She had all the grandchildren help her one year make dolls for an orphan home in Romania. She always made the best of any situation she faced, she would always tell us to pray about it and the Lord will give you an answer. Everywhere she went she would not only  want her senior citizen discount but wanted her “drop dead gorgeous discount”. She was a long-time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Willing Doers Sunday School Class and enjoyed their lady luncheons.

She is survived by her 3 children: Richard L. Stampley, Jr. of Waxahachie, Suzanne Hickman and her husband, Stephen of Ennis, Wes Stampley and his wife, Carolyn of Ennis; she is also survived by eight grandchildren, Amanda Williams, Melissa Lee, Emily Hickman, Felicia Stampley, JR Stampley, Shelby Mezenen, Ceara Weeks, honorary granddaughter Chanta Strickland, and grand dog Radar; thirteen great grandchildren Macey, Sierra, Chloee, Chase, Jack H., Michael, Zoee, Guin, Jayden, Jacob, Jack, Hunter and Jhett. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 58 years Richard L. Stampley.
