Barbara Jean Hughes Witherspoon August 8, 1937 – September 8, 2026 Barbara Jean Hughes Witherspoon was born on August 8, 1937, in Bogata, Texas, to Oneida Viva Dunn Hughes and Richard Loyce Hughes.

Barbara married the love of her life, Donald Weldon Witherspoon, on November 26, 1953. Together, they shared more than 72 years of marriage, building a life filled with family, love, and many memories. They enjoyed traveling together and experiencing new places, creating memories that they and their family treasured.

Barbara worked at Republic Bank and Carpet Warehouse Center before retiring from Hagar Clothing Company. While she was a dedicated and hardworking woman, her greatest joy was her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In her free time, Barbara enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and cooking for her family. She especially enjoyed preparing recipes that had been passed down through her family, carrying on traditions that had been shared through generations.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Donald Weldon Witherspoon; her brother, Jimmie Hughes and his wife, Karen; her sons, Donald Weldon Witherspoon Jr. and Darren Scott Witherspoon and his wife, Tammy; her granddaughters, Gina Witherspoon, Samantha Speights and her husband, Justin, and Vanessa Zeiller and her husband, Zachary; and her great-grandchildren, Addison Speights, Silas Speights, Waylon Reese, Kristofer Zeiller, and Evelynn Zeiller.

She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Susan Ruebman and her husband, Andy; Cris Hughes and his wife, Dani; and Jana Gruber and her husband, Geff.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Oneida Viva Dunn Hughes and Richard Loyce Hughes, and her sister, Glenda L. McCain.

Barbara will be remembered for her love of family, the many years she shared with Donald, the trips they took together, the family recipes she continued to prepare, and the countless memories made with those she loved. She will be dearly missed by all.
