Barbara Carol Hamsher was born May 26th, 1949 at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington West Virginia and passed December 28th, 2022. Her heavenly reunion include her parents Donald Owens and Wanda Newman; and son William Christopher Hutchison.
In school, Barbara was a cheerleader, lifeguard, a pro marksman with the National Rifle Association, a swimmer and also showed horses. In her teenage years, Barbara competed in many beauty pageants including Miss Flame and Miss West Virginia in 1966 where she went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant the same year.
In 1969, Barbara gave birth to Christopher, one year later came Heather and in 1974 Tiffany. While raising 3 kids, Barbara returned to school and attended Marshall University where she received her BA in Sociology and Anthropology. Her love of playing in the dirt and rocks as a child led her to a career travelling the country to several archaeological digs.
Barbara loved nature and enjoyed God’s creations. She had quite a green thumb and could easily name most plants, flowers and trees. She even enjoyed the thrill of white-water rafting.
Barbara was known for her love of animals and has rescued more than possible to remember. No doubt she was greeted by many wagging tails a few days ago.
She was a Mother of 3, Grandmother of 9, and Great Grandmother of 3. In 1989, on July 4th, Barbara met Andy. They married several years later and built many cherished memories after being together 33 years.
Barbara is survived by step-mother Joyce Owens, Husband Andy Hamsher, Brother Jeff Boster, Daughter Heather McMurtry and Husband Patrick; Grandchildren Hillary and Sam Hodges, Daughter Tiffany Haid and Husband Mike; Grandchildren Brooklyn Peoples and Skylor Lewis, Daughter-in-Law Jennifer Hutchison and Grandchildren Mallory, Trevor, Hailey, Clara and Thomas Hutchison.
Funeral Services for Barbara Carol Hamsher will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 6th, 2023 at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Midlothian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday evening at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. After, Friends and Family are invited to celebrate in honor of Barbara at 911 New York Ave, Midlothian, TX 76065.
