On Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, Amparo “Ampy” Punsalan, loving widow, mother of three, grandmother of seven, and great grandmother of three, passed away peacefully at age 94 at Clements University Hospital in Dallas, Texas.
Mrs. Punsalan was born on February 5, 1932 in Pura, Tarlac Philippines, to parents Paterno Aganon and Gregoria Aganon. Mrs. Punsalan graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and later received her degree in Nursing at San Juan de Dios in Pasay City. While attending San Juan de Dios, she met her future husband and the love of her life, Jorge Punsalan. They married on December 23rd, 1961 in Pura Catholic Church in Pura, Tarlac Philippines. Mrs. Punsalan immigrated to Dallas, Texas in 1971, when she was sponsored as a nurse at Parkland Hospital. In pursuit of better opportunities for their family, she made the difficult and selfless decision to come to the United States ahead of her loved ones. Her husband joined her two years later, and after three more years, they were joyfully reunited with their children. She lost her husband on October 11th, 1977. Mrs. Punsalan enjoyed a long career in Labor and Delivery nursing that spanned almost thirty years.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Punsalan impacted the lives of generations of healthcare workers and patients. She was a woman of deep and unwavering faith, attending Mass multiple times a day and devoting much of her life to constant prayer. Known affectionately as “Ampy,” she also found joy in life’s simple pleasures—she loved to dance and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, and later in life, Shark Tank.
Mrs. Punsalan is preceded in death by her parents, Paterno and Gregoria Aganon, her loving husband of 15 years, Jorge Punsalan, and her siblings Charles Aganon, Asterio Aganon, Crisostomo Aganon, and Erlinda Aganon.
She is survived by her brother Pepito Aganon, children Cynthia Marcus, Wilhelmine Park, and Grace Owens, grandchildren Alex, Jessica, Jared, Sydney, Haley, Avery, and Cassidy, and great grandchildren Sloane, Beckett, and Sutton. Our family is eternally grateful for the support and prayers received from friends and family everywhere.
In lieu of flowers, please offer a Mass dedication, prayers or intentions for the soul of Mrs. Punsalan.
