Bobby Thad McGinnis was born in Venus, Texas on March 23, 1928 and died at home on November 16, 2019

Bob grew up in Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High.  He attended North Texas State where he met Bobbie Sullivan, after a brief courtship they were married on July 13, 1947.  They had been married for 72 years.  A loving husband, father and grandfather, he had three children.  Suzanne, Rick and Bill.  Suzanne preceded him in death in 1994.  He is survived by  wife, Bobbie, son Rick McGinnis and wife Patty, grandchildren Grant McGinnis, Terre McGinnis Wooley and  husband Jacob and grandchild Brooks Wooley, Thomas McGinnis and  wife Kristina, son Bill McGinnis and grandchildren Keith McGinnis and wife Elise and Matthew McGinnis.  Suzanne had two surviving children, Justin Trant and wife Megan and grandchild Stockton, Melissa Trant and grandchildren Jamal Smith, Caymen Smith and Amaniu Moore.  A daughter in law Rhonda McGinnis from Kerrville, Texas

Bob worked various jobs throughout high school, then began his 41 year career with Sears at the age of 19.  He worked with them for 41 years.  He became a Sears store manager at 28 and was recognized at that time as the youngest person to become a major department store manager in the nation.  As a store manager, he was transferred often and worked in 12 cities before finally retiring in Austin.  In 1987 he moved back to Waxahachie.  Bob served on various boards and committees everywhere he moved.  In Austin he was a lobbyist for Sears to the State Legislature and was on the Board of Directors for Bank of America.  After retirement, his business foundation led him into his civic service in Ellis County.  He served on the Museum Board, Water Board, Waxahachie Foundation, Waxahachie City Council, the Airport Board which oversaw the development and building of the Midway Airport, the YMCA board, the Waxahachie Community Development Corporation which oversaw the creation and building of the Waxahachie Civic Center and Sports Complex.  Among other awards over the years, in 2010 he was named  Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.  Bob was also a member of the First Baptist Church.

Bob golfed and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, being instrumental in their lives.  He was dedicated to his family and to making Waxahachie a better community.
