Mavis Glass

March 20, 1938 — July 9, 2017

Mavis Irene Knapp Glass, aged 79, went to be with her Heavenly Father on July 9, 2017. Mavis was born in Harlingen, Texas on March 20, 1938 to Parker and Mavis Knapp. She was the "fun loving" first daughter of Parker and Mavis three daughters. Mavis, Rosy and Gretchen all grew up in Harlingen, Texas. All of the sisters graduated from Harlingen High School. Mavis was a cheerleader for the Harlingen Cardinals; she was voted most popular of her high school class and was selected to be in the court of the Queen of Citrus Anna for the Rio Grande Valley. She was also a member of the Harlingen High School Band (until she was asked to leave because she was not the best clarinet player).

Mavis attended Baylor University where in her freshman year she was named a Baylor Beauty. Later that same year she met the love of her life Bill Glass. Bill and Mavis were married on March 2, 1957. They had three children Billy, Bobby, and Mindy. Mavis could always be found at her children's games or programs. She was a wonderful homemaker who infused love in all that she did. She made the most delicious pies for all of our holiday gatherings. Her cooking skills were legendary as is evidenced by the birth of her children. Mavis loved black coffee however ice cream held a special place in her heart or should I say stomach. Mavis loved the outdoors and was an avid bird watcher. She also loved and raised all kinds of animals from llamas, rabbits, chickens and cats, to orphaned calves, dogs, horses, miniature horses, birds, peacocks and a Vietnamese potbelly pig. Mavis also shared her love by volunteering at Children's Hospital and Meals on Wheels. One of her favorite ways to give was to bring children home during the holidays from local orphanages. On top of all of this she faithfully served with her husband ministering in prisons for over 45 years. She had no confidence in her physical strength because of her long history of back and neck problems however she had great confidence in Jesus. And because of her great faith in Jesus she had the ability to overcome obstacles and accomplish great things! One of her favorite verses was Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy path".

She was a strong, supportive wife to Bill and a wonderful, nurturing mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the backbone of the family and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Parker and Mavis Knapp, and her niece Lenae Cooley Gray.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill of Waxahachie, Texas; Children: Billy Glass and his wife, Laura of Southlake, Texas; Bobby Glass and his wife, Angela of Dallas, Texas; and Mindy Erisman and her husband, Rob of Waxahachie, Texas. Grandchildren: Billy Ray Glass of Southlake, Matthew and Ashley Glass of North Richland Hills, Josh Glass and Heather Glass of Keller; Katy and Juan Sagrero of Merida, Mexico; Caleb McEachern of Dallas, Texas; Robert Erisman, IV of Tyler, Texas; Hunter and Sara Glass of Rockwall, Texas; Brooke Glass and Monroe Glass, both of Dallas, Texas. Great-Grandchildren: Bella, River, Beau, Bear, Luke, Bobby, Lilly, Ava and Robert V.
