Dorothy Taylor

May 28, 1927 — May 16, 2017

Dorothy Jo Taylor, 89, of Waxahachie passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at her home. Dorothy was born May 28, 1927 in Tulia, Texas to Jim and Zella Height.

After graduating from Hart High School in 1944, she married Charlie Taylor of Plainview on June 16th, after one date and on a dare. They then shared almost 73 happy years of marriage together.
Dorothy raised twin boys while Charlie served in the United States Army and then farmed side-by-side with him when he returned. They had another son and moved to Waxahachie on Thanksgiving Day in 1956, because she did not want her boys to miss a day of school.

Dorothy loved cooking and baking desserts, especially her famous pecan pies. She worked as a seamstress and helped manage two clothing stores. She also helped run the bus depot and service station that she and her husband owned. However, Dorothy would say her greatest job was raising her kids and grandkids.

Dorothy was a very strong Christian. She and Charlie have served as devoted members of Farley Street Baptist Church since 1956. She served as the superintendent of the Junior 1 department for over 30 years. Dorothy was also a charter member and past president of the sorority Beta Sigma Phi, where she helped organize different charitable activities around Waxahachie.

Her survivors include her husband, Charlie Taylor; son, Don Taylor of Waxahachie; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; brother, W.C. Height; sons, Ronnie and Paige Taylor; and daughter-in-law, Carole Taylor.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 19th at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. The celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20th at Farley Street Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Waxahachie City Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Farley Street Baptist Church or Feed the Children.
